The Pink Floyd Experience

Last night I saw a fantastic band, The Pink Floyd Experience.

PFE covered the entire Dark Side of the Moon and Wall albums in a 3 odd hour show. The had all the trimmings of the real Floyd like a fantastic light show and the obligatory circular screen showing various videos to complement the music.

The first half of the show started with Shine On and from the first notes on the keyboard you could tell there was going to be a wall of sound. The show as at the Thebarton Theatre (Thebby) here in Adelaide which was a great venue for this kind of music. The acoustics are fabulous and the audience just the right size (only seats max 3000 ppl).

Apart from Shine On, the first half consisted of a performance of the Dark Side of the Moon Album. The crowd absolutely loved it. The lead singer was very versatile taking on both the Roger and David parts from the original. The drummer chimed in on backups and did the 'Why should I be frightened of dying' bits. The backup singers did a great job (Last Great Gig was a bit disapointing but a good effort at it). The video screen showed lots of footage that the band had had done to compliment the songs, without ripping off any of Floyd's original footage.

The second half was a complete rendition of the Wall, including the building of the Wall as per the original Floyd concerts. The lead singer proved his acting ability too recreating many of Bob Gelfoff's parts in the film. Lots of costume chages as he went from Pink the anarchist to sad and confused rock star. Highlight was the note perfect lead break in Comfortably Numb where the crowd went balistic!!

The show concluded with the breaking down of the Wall and could have done with an encore but the typical Adelaide crowd wouldn't try hard enough to get one.

I'll be making a point of seeing these guys again if they come back to Adelaide. Good One !
