Keith Urban - Adelaide Concert 25th February 2005

Let me start by saying I didn't like Keith. When he won a Golden Guitar and swiftly moved to Nashville I thought he was a sellout and never bothered to listen to any of his albums.

Well Keith, I'm now glad to say I was wrong. If going to the US has made you what you are then I say good on you. Friday night's concert at the Thebarton (thats one word and 'e' as in Egg for all you non-Adelaidians) Theatre was the best I have seen in Adelaide in a long time.

Thebby is a small theatre so it's really intimate and I think Keith really got off on that. You can see faces on the people right up in the back row so you know if everyone is getting off.

From the minute he opened with Days Go By standing on top of the amp stack, he gave everything. And in response, the crowd gave it back. By Walk In The Country we were all standing and singing with him. Three of four songs in and I was soaked from sweat. This guy kick's arse. No wonder the Yanks love him.

He did just about everything off the new album and a fair bit of the old stuff from The Ranch and Golden Road. He didn't do You (or Somebody Like You) which is one of my favourites but then, typical Adelaide crowd, wouldn't try for a second encore which might have delivered.

I loved the old Tom Petty Free Fallin' with the bit of U2 thrown in at the end. Really got the crowd pumping.

At one stage Keith was so pumped (or buggered I'm not sure which) that he fell over backwards on stage. He never missed a beat, just kept on playing. He's either a good actor or he really was having a ball up there on stage.

There was never any doubt about an encore with the crowd chanting and stamping their feet on the old wooden floor-boards at Thebby. These Are the Days was a highlight for me.

I walked out of there with no voice but on a huge high - and definitely a converted Keith Fan. Mate, don't forget Adelaide next time you're back in Oz, cause we certainly won't be forgetting last Friday night for a long time!
